The Escales Canyon is unique and, due to its technical nature, rarely visited, making its descent a privileged and one-of-a-kind experience. The gorge winds in the shade of a magnificent forest of birch and boxwood, creating a surreal atmosphere on sunny days when sunlight filters through the foliage. The obstacles are never very high (max 15m) but are always very aquatic, with numerous slides, including the extraordinary 22m Super Slide. You’ll receive detailed instruction on movement techniques as well as teamwork, making you the protagonists of your own adventure. A sporty canyon descent for all water and thrill lovers.

Estat Canyon

This large-scale, highly vertical route offers stunning views of the Artigue Canyon below and the Pique Rouge de Bassiès (2,676m) towering above, all in a pure high-mountain atmosphere. The canyon features beautiful slides, a large number of rappels, and a 50m waterfall. This descent takes a full day (8 hours)! Thanks to precise instruction, the Estat Canyon is ideal for improving canyoning skills and learning rope progression and team techniques. It’s one of our favorite canyons for training professional trainees on the full route and perfecting their rope techniques during our Universal Canyoning Academy courses.

The Artigue Canyon is a true gem of canyoning in Ariège, combining grand landscapes and thrilling sensations! The Marc Canyon, carved into schist and wrapped in lush vegetation, offers a playful and dynamic route in Ariège. Its spectacular narrow gorge, combined with a regulated water flow, ensures an enjoyable descent even in overcast weather.

Subra Canyon

Subra Canyon

The Subra Canyon offers a beautiful sequence of 25 waterfalls. Mineral and open in its upper section, the gorge is carved into beautiful red schist rock. This canyon ends with two magnificent, deeply incised, and aerial sections (the last 8 waterfalls). The most beautiful and highest obstacles are found at the end of the route, including a guided 25m rappel followed by a stunning 20m waterfall that you descend behind the water curtain into a cave. It is rarely visited, so you’ll have peace and quiet to learn canyoning as a team and perfect your rope autonomy.

A sporty canyon descent for all those who love thrills, learning technique and autonomy in canyoning.

Vicdessos Underground Canyon

A complete underground adventure… but at your own pace!

You want to discover caving differently ? We’ll be delighted to take you on Ariège water cave highly appreciated: a wild cave, sculpted by water and time, incredibly varied, fun, and adventurous!

What we do, concretely:

Three short abseiling descents to get into the swing of things, then we dive into the famous Serpentin passage...and there, the magic happens: large rooms, underground river, water slides, play of light... we move forward together, but it's you who gradually takes the lead of the group, guided by our advice.

You’ll learn the basics of caving! In a relaxed, reassuring, and truly supportive atmosphere—no pressure, no judgment, no performance: just authenticity, life, and sharing.

Autonomous Canyoner

Autonomous Canyoneer Training – Become Autonomous in Canyon

Within a small group of 6 trainees maximum, we train you in autonomy in canyoning, whether you are in the initiation or improvement phase. During a week, theory and practice complement each other. You will train in the most beautiful canyons of Ariège to develop concrete and lasting skills.

Who is this training for?

This training is for anyone who wants to:

> become a autonomous canyoneer,

> learn to move in a group of initiated practitioners,

> progress in canyons with limited commitment,

> master preparation, progression, obstacle rigging, and self-rescue.

This is a recreational training, not professional. It can also suit those who wish to refresh or supplement their skills thanks to a modular and accessible format.

Detailed Program

Day 1: Cliff and Canyon Initiation for Beginners

Morning: Welcome at the SCA center, equipment introduction, learning essential knots, and initiation to rope movements (handrails, rappelling) on a cliff.
Afternoon: Practical application in the Marc Canyon (or Argensou) to work on team progression, communication, and equipment management.

Day 2: Technical Application in Canyon

Morning: Preparation and departure for the Artigue Canyon (Escales or another, depending on conditions).
Afternoon: Focus on simple obstacles (natural slides, jumps, guided rappels) and team progression (communication, etc.).

Day 3: Consolidation and Real-Life Scenarios

Morning: Review of techniques and preparation for the Subra Canyon.
Afternoon: Real-life scenarios with obstacle de-rigging, collective equipment management, and consolidation of skills.

Good to know

The canyons of Ariège, located between 800 and 1,500 meters above sea level, offer varied conditions (weather, water flow). The program may therefore be adjusted based on current conditions to ensure your safety and comfort.

Programme :

Module 1 (3 jours) : Technique 510 €

Obtenir toutes les compétences nécessaires pour choisir et utiliser le meilleur matériel de canyoning en toute situation.

Maîtriser toutes les techniques de progression sur corde et d’auto-secours. Maîtriser les techniques efficaces d’équipement de corde dans un canyon.

Optimiser vos compétences en stratégie et anticipation afin de devenir un leader compétent dans les canyons techniques (V4+).

Module 2 (2 jours) : Eaux-vives 340 €

Maîtriser les connaissances générales en eaux-vives afin d’acquérir toutes les compétences techniques complémentaires et les techniques avancées de progression en eaux-vives.

Optimiser vos compétences en stratégie et anticipation pour la gestion de groupe en canyons aquatiques et de franchissement en gros débit (A4+).

Module 3 (3 jours) : Enseignement 510 €

Être capable d’encadrer un petit groupe d’amis dans un canyon peu difficile dans des conditions de sécurité adaptées. Maitriser les techniques d’échappatoire et d’évacuation afin d’évacuer un groupe en cas d’accident ou de force majeure.

Acquérir toutes les connaissances pédagogiques et les compétences techniques requises pour assister un Instructeur (ICI) lors d’une séance professionnelle d’Initiation au Canyoning (CAI).

Etre capable d’aider l’Instructeur qui est en charge de la session. Etre capable d’aider l’Instructeur à gérer la logistique d’un centre affilié à l’UCA.
