My name is Romain, I\u2019m a caving instructor around Tarascon-sur-Ari\u00e8ge, and trust me, if you want to discover a land where caves aren\u2019t just \u201cbeautiful\u201d but alive, authentic<\/strong>, and sometimes downright playful, then you\u2019re in the right place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me give you a quick tour of the local tourist caves I love, and then I\u2019ll take you to my playgrounds\u2014where I guide groups of adventurers just like you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These two worlds are different\u2026 but totally complementary.<\/strong> Tourist caves are equipped, lit, and open to all: perfect for discovering the beauty, history, and enormous chambers of the underground world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then there are the ones where I guide you<\/a><\/strong>: the other side. Here, you touch the rock, you move forward, you crawl, you get wet\u2026 in short, you experience real exploration<\/strong>. This is authentic caving, in undeveloped caves where you need to gear up<\/strong>, put on your wetsuit, headlamp, and be ready to push yourself a little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niaux Cave<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This one, whether you know about Prehistory or not, it leaves a mark!<\/strong>\n\n\n\n\nWhat I loved most:<\/strong>\n\n\n> The total silence in the galleries, and then suddenly\u2026 the cave paintings<\/strong>. We\u2019re not talking about \"little drawings,\" but true masterpieces<\/strong>.\n\n\n\n\nWhy is it interesting?<\/strong>\n\n\n> Because you literally walk where humans walked over 13,000 years ago. Places like this to visit are extremely rare now!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

B\u00e9deilhac Cave<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Huge, impressive<\/strong>, almost \"cathedral-like.\"\n\n\n\n\nMy feeling:<\/strong>\n\n\n> The first time I entered, I felt like a giant had carved it out<\/strong>. The chambers are enormous!\n\n\n\n\nWhy is it interesting?<\/strong>\n\n\n> Because you can see both stunning natural formations and a rich history tied to exploration, prehistory\u2026 and even aviation during the war!<\/p>\n\n\n

Mas d'Azil Cave<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The cave where a road passes through! Unique in France.<\/strong>\n\n\n\n\nWhat I love:<\/strong>\n\n\n> It\u2019s completely unusual<\/strong> and rich in prehistoric remains.\n\n\n\n\nWhy is it interesting?<\/strong>\n\n\n> Because it\u2019s a tunnel-cave<\/strong>, a mix of geology, history, and underground landscapes, with part of it developed for visits. It was inhabited by prehistoric humans<\/strong> and holds many fascinating remains. A huge number of bats live there<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n

Lombrives Cave<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s said to be the \u201clargest in Europe\u201d\u2014and honestly, you can see why!\n\n\n\n\nMy feeling:<\/strong>\n\n\n> The immensity!<\/strong> When you enter, you never really see the end...\n\n\n\n\nWhat I love most:<\/strong>\n\n\n> The Cathedral Chamber\u2014gigantic, silent, almost mystical<\/strong>. It regularly hosts concerts<\/strong>, and thanks to its incredible acoustics, the experience is one-of-a-kind!\n\n\n\n\nWhy is it interesting?<\/strong>\n\n\n> Because this cave blends legends, biology, geology, and a unique sense of infinity. The formations are breathtaking.<\/p>\n\n\n

Labou\u00efche underground river<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A classic, but so much fun\u2014especially with family!\n\n\n\n\nMy feeling:<\/strong>\n\n\n> It\u2019s a trip back to childhood in a magical world<\/strong>, but watch out for splashes on the boat\u2026 It\u2019s become a tradition!\n\n\n\n\nWhat I loved most:<\/strong>\n\n\n> Sailing in a small boat on the underground river<\/strong>\u2014it\u2019s rare and super fun for a first introduction to the underground world.\n\n\n\n\nWhy is it interesting?<\/strong>\n\n\n> Because it\u2019s a \u201ccomfortable\u201d discovery<\/strong> but in a real natural setting. The boat ride on the underground river delights the whole family<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n
