Our discovery of canyoning
\n<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

With a group of friends, we decided this year to get together to practice an outdoor activity<\/strong> in the heart of the Ari\u00e8ge mountains.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

So much choice! That being said, we had heard about canyoning,<\/strong> a trendy, adventurous and very \"natural\" practice that we know absolutely nothing about. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Our curiosity and need to be together, in the middle of nature, pushed us to do some advanced research on the internet. We found a definition<\/a>: \"canyoning consists of progressing in the bed of a watercourse winding through gorges interspersed with waterfalls. The descent techniques practiced are walking, swimming, jumping and sliding and abseiling on ropes\". <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"sp\u00e9l\u00e9o<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This activity seems to meet our expectations exactly<\/strong>, fun, sensations and discovering a new activity\u2026 but being a complete beginner, there is no way I am going to try this alone!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A few more searches easily lead us to find a list of professionals offering descents of different levels, difficult to choose... Finally we called on Sp\u00e9l\u00e9o Canyon Ari\u00e8ge,<\/strong> canyoning professionals who seem very serious, who detail the different routes very well on their website<\/a> and who, moreover, offer a very reassuring personalized welcome. <\/span><\/span><\/span>We chose with Rodolphe, the instructor, over the phone the course best suited to our level.<\/strong> Great, we're off on an adventure this weekend, and what's more, it'll just be the six of us, my friends and I, just between us!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It's time to leave Toulouse, excited but a little tense because it's a leap into the unknown for us.<\/strong> The short hour on the motorway relaxes us, we all reach the canyoning base in Niaux... we'll have a good look on site because we're already arriving...<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"accueil<\/a>After getting to know the instructor over a coffee, he presents us with the program and photos of the activity, Arthur his photographer, as well as the specific equipment for the descent. Une approche tr\u00e8s rassurante autour d\u2019un petit caf\u00e9, parfait.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Distribution du mat\u00e9riel sp\u00e9cifique,<\/strong> \u00e0 savoir\u00a0: un \u00e9quipement pour se prot\u00e9ger du froid (combinaison n\u00e9opr\u00e8ne int\u00e9grale et chaussettes, chaussures de canyoning, casque) et un \u00e9quipement pour pouvoir franchir les cascades (harnais, cordes, mousquetons, descendeurs canyoning, longes etc...). Puis nous partons sur le site au village typique de Hourr\u00e9, magnifique !<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Apr\u00e8s une tr\u00e8s courte marche d\u2019approche ombrag\u00e9e, nous nous \u00e9quipons de tout cet attirail. Notre moniteur nous enseigne pr\u00e9alablement les techniques de progression<\/strong> : marcher dans l'eau sur des rochers plus ou moins glissants, nager, descendre en rappel des cascades, sauter dans des vasques, glisser sur des toboggans de roche et m\u00eame communiquer entre nous par signes. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Alors l'aventure commence ! Car il s'agit bien d'une aventure ! Le milieu naturel est inconnu, escarp\u00e9, surprenant\u2026 On p\u00e9n\u00e8tre alors dans une gorge taill\u00e9e dans la roche et d\u00e9couvrons un monde min\u00e9ral incroyablement color\u00e9. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Le moniteur prend la t\u00eate de notre petit groupe, chacun avec un sac remplis de cordes\u2026 Puis apr\u00e8s quelques minutes de marche, le bruit d'une premi\u00e8re cascade<\/strong> se fait entendre... <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The instructor approaches slowly, takes a small rope out of his bag and attaches it to anchors firmly sealed in the rock. He thus installs the access \"handrail\" which allows us to be at the edge of the waterfall in complete safety then the abseiling ropes. . Here we are at the top of a waterfall of about ten meters overlooking a large pot of clear and limpid water.<\/strong> The place is magnificent! Although this first waterfall is a little impressive, our preparation exercises at the beginning of the canyon help us to cope. Our instructor reassures us by reminding us that he is there to help us, to teach us how to do and secure our descent\u2026 We follow his instructions. He cheers us on happily, and we surprise ourselves by being able to rappel down for the first time by ourselves with such \"ease\", if you can say so! Hence the importance of going with an experienced person and being in a team<\/strong> so that we can help each other during the descent.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The photographer doesn\u2019t miss a thing, he\u2019s everywhere at once, once perched above us, another on his own rappel rope on the other side of the waterfall! Luckily he\u2019s there to immortalize our exploits because we don\u2019t have too many of our two hands!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\"canyoning<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Once at the bottom of the waterfall, freed from the rope, we emerge from this incredible shower created by the cascade of fresh water with a powerful feeling of success and surpassing ourselves! A first feat for all of us,<\/strong> who are all novices in rope techniques! <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/a> Rock and water, sun, freshness, and above all \"fun\"...<\/strong> Joy can be seen on our faces. Cliffs several meters high surround us and we are there, our feet in the water, contemplating this little paradise without any more pressure... A few trees at the top of the cliffs wave their shady branches, cutting off the light and contact with civilization. Our entire team is very excited to be able to discover this new wild playground<\/strong> which will still have many surprises in store for us. A succession of small waterfalls, slides and various progressions, up to this magnificent gigantic final \"pot\" where we will discover the pleasure of jumps from different heights... What a program!<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Back to the Sp\u00e9l\u00e9o Canyon Ari\u00e8ge base where we proudly debrief<\/strong> with our instructor over a little fruit juice and some welcome snacks. And to finish in style, our photographer offers us a small private \"showroom\" to show us a selection of the most beautiful photos of our adventure! <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
